The Mirage

Our inaugural book selection was "The Mirage" by Zay N. Smith and Pamela Zekman (New York: Random House, 1979)

"The Mirage" tavern was a front for an investigative reporting piece done by the Chicago Sun-Times in the late 70s in Chicago. The book describes the short history of the Sun-Times owned tavern and the corruption uncovered by the participating reporters. The Hornbook Club meeting location, Brehon Pub, was the location for this front tavern called The Mirage.

The group had a great discussion about the current and past state of both Chicago and Illinois politics. One book club member even did a little research finding a recently written Anti-Corruption Report by UIC's Department of Political Science.

Thank you to all who were able to attend and discuss!
If you have any comments to leave regarding the book please do so under this post.
